Bush fire, hoax bomb threat at KU
Karachi
Students and staff lodged at the Karachi University's girls hostel were asked to evacuate the premises on Wednesday evening as a bush fire broke out along the boundary wall. Fortunately, firefighters responded efficiently and the fire was doused without causing any loss of life or property.
A KU official said the evacuation was a precautionary measure and confirmed that the fire had been put out without incident.
However, the hostel evacuation was preceded by a hoax bomb call to the police about a planted bomb at KU. The Bomb Disposal Squad had rushed in after a caller warned of three bombs having been placed in the varsity's gym.
He added that the campus was also partially evacuated after the call but the premises was cleared after a thorough search. An official said the calls were received on the police helpline about at least three bombs having been placed somewhere in the book fair at the varsity's gymnasium hall.
Admissions cancelled
The director admissions of the University of Karachi (UoK), Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi, on Wednesday claimed that on verification from the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), the mark sheets of some students have been found forged and tampered, due to which their admission has been cancelled with immediate effect.
