Five-member body to select new Ogra chairman

ISLAMABAD: The government has initiated the process to select new chairman of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) as existing chief is going to retire on Aril 16.

The government is going to constitute within days a five-member high powered committee for scrutiny of candidates for the said slot for four years’ time. A summary has already been sent to the prime minister for constitution of a five member committee led by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and  comprising Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and three federal secretaries of cabinet, establishment and law. The committee would be assisted by an independent private expert, a senior official privy to the development told The News. 

Around two dozen candidates have applied before the deadline of February 4, sources said. Under the advertisement for the post with a maximum of 64 years of age, the applicant should be an eminent professional of known integrity and competence with a minimum of twenty years of related experience in Law, business, engineering, finance, accounting, economics, petroleum technology, public administration or management with expected experience in corporate restructuring, privatisation, implementation of reforms, investment planning, development finance, sector regulation along with demonstrable track record of senior level policy and strategy formulation.
