The Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) has decided to provide more modern weapons to its security guards.

Currently, around 200 guards, including armed ones, are deployed on the university’s 1,500 acres premises at the foot of the Margallah hills.

According to QAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Javed Ashraf, more modern weapons will be given to the university’s guards to ensure foolproof security of the students and staff members on campus.

He told reporters that the ongoing construction of boundary walls would also boost the security of the campus.  The vice-chancellor said the university was complying with the police’s security guidelines, including establishment of checkpoints and provision of patrol vehicles to guards on campus.

He said the university had given away Rs95 million scholarships to around 3,500 deserving yet brilliant students both men and women helping them higher education.

“Currently, around 40 per cent of our students are benefiting from the financial assistance under 29 categories,” he said. The vice-chancellor said work on two educational blocks and hostels each was underway under the Public Sector Development Programme.
