Karachi
The security operation underway in the city since September 2013 came under detailed discussion on Tuesday as DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar called on Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the CM House.
As per a communiqué issued by the CM’s media team, the two discussed issues pertaining to the province’s overall law and order situation, progress in the targeted operation, prosecution of cases in courts, and other relevant matters.
It added that the chief minister was highly appreciative of the performance of police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies for restoration of peace in the city, terming the current security situation “quite satisfactory” and hailing the “tangible results” of the targeted operation. “I am quite happy that the people of the city are enjoying their day-to-day life in this peaceful city,” the CM was quoted as saying in the statement.
Shah appreciated the close coordination between the Rangers and police, stating, “This is a commendable working relationship and it must be made stronger to ensure sustainable peace.” The only other minister who attended yesterday’s meeting was Senior Minister for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah. The meeting came on the day that the paramilitary force’s special policing powers – granted under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 – were to end after the last extension that was awarded by the CM on February 3 this year.
