Six killed as severe heatwave grips country

People take to roads against loadshedding

ISLAMABAD: At least six persons died and may others fainted due to severe heatwave that had gripped the plain areas of the country on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Muhammad Sharif, 70, Maqsood Ahmed, 70, Samina, 30, in Sahiwal district while 9 other fainted as four of them were in a critical condition. As many as three people died in interior Sindh. 

Amidst severe heatwave, the excessive loadshedding had made the life of the people miserable. In D I Khan, the protesters stormed the Wapda office as strong protests were also staged in the parts of the country. 

In D I Khan, the angry protesters took out a demonstration from Sheikh Yousaf Chowk to Pesco office wielding sticks in their hands against power loadshedding of more than twenty hours. In Peshawar, the people also staged demonstration against loadshedding and kept the road to Kahot blocked for several hours.

According to Met office, Dadu braced the severest heat up to 48 degree Celsius, Shaheed Benazir Abad 47, Rahim Yar Khan, Larkana, 46, Lahore,44 and the temperature in Rawalpindi and Islamabad remained 40 degree.  On the other hand, the ice-dealers have increased rates of ice.
