Karachi
In the wake of an attack on the Karachi Press Club, by pro-Mumtaz Qadri protestors on Sunday, the governing body of the club banned the entry of the political party the attackers belonged to from entering the club’s premises, on Monday.
The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the KPC’s governing body- presided over by its president, Fazil Jamili.
The governing body called on the provincial government to arrest and bring to justice activists behind Sunday’s attack, and also demanded to ensure protection of journalists from death threats to incidents of vandalism by charged protestors.
The meeting’s participants also decided upon intimating all political and religious organizations to hold the esteemed institution in utmost respect as it had provided a space to journalists who furthered and safeguarded the concept of freedom of expression in the society.
The media representatives also appreciated the response of various journalists associations following the attack.
They further thanked Sindh chief minister’s advisor on information and archives, Moula Bakhsh Chandio, CM’s special assistant Waqar Mehdi and other officials of government and political parties who visited the press club and assured of their support and cooperation.
