ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Saturday said the military courts will only conduct proceedings of terrorism-related cases.

“Military courts are not Kangaroo courts and all misconceptions about these courts must be done away with,” Chaudhry Nisar said while addressing a press conference here.

He said the army courts would make available to the terrorists an avenue for presenting their explanation/ clarification.

Nisar said there are 60 proscribed outfits functioning under different-from-their-original names, warning if they continued their activities their cases would be referred to the military courts and their accounts frozen.

He said fundings of the terrorist groups were flowing in from all over the world.

He said steps are already afoot to gag the mouthpieces of terrorists on social media.

He said action will be initiated against Madressas under the law on the basis of evidence.

The Interior Minister, however, said not anyone whose case is taken up by the military courts would end up being punished and that the existing judicial system would continue to function as it is.

“Military courts should not be seen as a forum for dispensation of justice. These courts will not be used against a politician, Madressa, trader, media person or a common citizen,” he said.

He said there is a complete consensus among political parties following the Peshawar tragedy.

Nisar asked the citizens to call 1717 to report any suspicious and/ or terror-related activity, assuring the name of the informer will not be disclosed.

He said loudspeakers will be used for Azaan and Sermons only and not for any other purpose and action will be taken against those who use loud speakers for fanning sectarianism.
