Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) hosted many foreign faculty members in the past years. Carrying the university’s tradition forward, the Education Department hosted Dr. Donald Sharpes, adjunct faculty at Arizona State University, USA. Dr. Sharpes, is a known scholar in the fields of education, comparative and international teacher education, educational psychology, and educational foundations.
During his 2-week Talk Series, Dr. Sharpes shared his insights about grant proposal writing. He elaborated each aspect of grant proposal and offered tips to improve proposal write-ups. He has also emphasized on utilizing university’s website for promoting the faculty and their expertise to attract global research collaborations. Dr. Sharpes brought unique perspectives about development and influences of organizational and personal beliefs on teachers’ knowledge. He also shared his valuable experiences with the faculty and senior students.
Speaking on the closing ceremony of the talk series, Vice Chancellor, Professor. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir thanked the guest and reiterated the need of collaborative research and publications. She underscored the importance of networking and stressed upon the participants from Fatima Jinnah Women University and Government College for Elementary Teachers, Islamabad to utilize the gained knowledge in developing projects rather than letting the knowledge lie dormant. The guest speaker, Dr. Sharpes while sharing his experiences, said that he was glad to share his expertise with faculty and students and to be a part of their professional development as researchers and scholars. He said that education is the most powerful tool in empowering people to lead a life of dignity and also essential for achieving sustained high economic growth. It provides an opportunity for changed motivations and changed internal control. Effective education remains our most powerful tool for achieving long-term change within communities.
