An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday issued a show cause notice to an investigation officer for failing to execute the court’s order in an extortion case.
The court observed that a case with extortion charges against Rehmat Ali and others was registered at the Pakistan Bazar police station under FIR No 85/2014 under Section 385/386/34 of Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 25 of Telegraph Act. The court had issued non-bailable warrants for arrest against the accused and had ordered the IO Aurangzeb Khan to arrest the accused, but he did not submit any police report about the execution of court orders.
The same ATC also remanded alleged extortionist, Muhammad Ali, to the police till March 8.
The accused was arrested on February 25 from a Meat Market located in the limits of Samanabad police station and had recovered an illegal pistol from his possession. He is facing a case registered under FIR No 36/2015 under Sections 385/386/23 (i) A of Pakistan Penal Code.
Illegal arms case
Meanwhile, Additional and District and Sessions Judge (Cental) Faiz Muhammad Bhatti awarded one year’s imprisonment to Hidayatullah alias Dada after he admitted to have possessed an illegal pistol.
The court, while taking a lenient view in the illegal arms case, held that since the accused had confessed to his crime and had thrown himself at the mercy of court, it was a good act.
The judge noted that it was fair to face at least one year’s imprisonment by the convict. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him and declared that in default of the fine amount, the convict would have to face another one month term of detention as punishment.
Hidayatullah alias Dada was arrested on March 4, 2014 from Khamisoo Goth. Other three accused, namely Subhan, Siraj alias Iqbal and Mumtaz Brohi, in the case had escaped from the raided spot.
The police had also recovered two shopping bags containing 540 kilogrammes of hashish. The court was informed that the bags were left by the absconding accused.
The court would try the absconding accused after they are arrested. The convict has already spent about one year of detention as an under-trial prisoner.
