KARACHI: One day after the hard-hitting statement of former president and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari, Commander of Corps-V, Pakistan Army, Lt-General Naveed Mukhtar, on Tuesday separately met the Sindh governor and chief minister.
The spokesmen for the Sindh CM House and Governor’s House said that security matters, the law and order situation, the ongoing targeted operation, and state of implementation of decisions of the provincial apex committee came under discussion as the corps commander Karachi separately met the two.
The corps commander met Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan at the Governor’s House and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the CM House.
The corps commander’s meeting with the CM discussed the issues related to the military trial courts in Sindh, terrorism cases being referred to the military courts and related legal and administrative matters.
The meeting between the CM and the corps commander discussed the issue of convening the next meeting of the provincial apex committee in Sindh. The implementation of the apex committee’s decisions was also discussed and reviewed in Sindh.
The meetings of the corps commander with the CM and governor coincided with Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif’s meeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad where both resolved to continue with the targeted operation in Karachi without being influenced by any political expediency for the sake of completely normalising the law and order situation in the city.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali called upon Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at the Bilawal House on Tuesday evening.
In the meeting, the chief minister briefed the chairman about the rehabilitation of flood affected people, party affairs and local bodies elections. Sources privy to the meeting at the Bilawal House said the CM also briefed the party’s chairman on the evolving political situation of the province, especially after the arrest by the Rangers of former federal petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain.
