Invoking Article 6 against me: be my guest, says Altaf

Says he won’t quit party till his last breath

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday insisted that he neither maligned the army nor asked for help from the Indian intelligence agency RAW.
In his telephonic address to party workers, Altaf said: “Even then I apologised to the people and state institutions. And if they still want to register a case against me under Article 6 or ban the MQM then they can be my guest.”
Altaf Hussain said he will never talk of quitting the party leadership in future. He said he talked of relinquishing the party leadership due to the performance of party leaders. “Party workers and leaders will have now to improve their performance,” he said. He announced that he will not quit the party leadership “till his last breath” no matter how grave the circumstances are, and how ‘negligent’ his party workers are.
He held that his media trial should now be stopped in the perspective of the address delivered by him a day before.
He said talks of registering cases against him are going on and TV channels have been issued notices not to air his statements.
Altaf Hussain said that various leaders expressed inappropriate views against the army but no action was taken against them, adding that a liberal party like the MQM is being termed a traitor.
He said attempts to suppress the party are being made at all levels but their spirits will not be deterred.
