ISLAMABAD: An audiotape of a telephonic conversation between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and senior leader Arif Alvi has surfaced in which Imran purportedly appreciated the attack on the PTV in September last year.
The leaked telephonic talk has been one of the hottest topics of discussion on the social media, TV channels and amongst the masses since Thursday night.
Alvi informs Imran on phone that the state-run PTV has been invaded and transmission suspended and Imran reacts with excitement, “That’s good, that’s good, they deserve it; pressure must be mounted further, otherwise Nawaz will not resign; this bastard should resign before the joint session.”
In the face of criticism, the PTI chairman had clarified that none of his party activists was involved in the incident. The PTI chief calls for exerting the maximum pressure on Nawaz at a time when several activists, apparently belonging to the PAT, had forced their entry to the PTV buidling situated in the Red Zone last year, when both Imran and PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri were leading their respective campaigns to topple the PML-N government.
The conversation has not been verified as yet. However, Alvi has confirmed the sounds appeared to be his own and that of Imran. But he insisted different words and conversations had been spliced together in the audio. He said the purported audio was nothing but rubbish.
In the chat, Alvi says that they had prepared a press release about the expected call from the MQM leader Altaf Hussain but he did not contact them, though they waited for his call till 2:30-3:00am. This indicates a close link between the PTI and MQM at that time, whereas both the sides are experiencing a bumpy relationship at the moment.Allegations and counter-allegations are the hallmark of ties between the PTI and MQM these days, particularly ever since the Rangers’ raid on Nine Zero.
