ISLAMABAD: While the Supreme Court takes up the Rs2 billion National Bank of Pakistan Employees Welfare Fund case, the top management of the state-owned bank has been declared ‘absconders’ by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), documents available with The News state.
According to FIA’s Charge Sheet No. 81/2012 dated 28-07-2012 in the First Information Report (FIR) No 23/2012 dated 10-05-2012 u/s 409, 34 PPC r/w Sec 5 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 submitted to anti-corruption court Karachi, 13 senior executives of the bank have been declared as absconders. Two other executives are on bail from the Sindh High Court.
NBP spokesman Aamir Abbasi, when contacted, confirmed the news but said that the matter was sub judice not only in the anti-corruption court but in the Supreme Court as well, therefore, as a matter of policy, the bank does not offer any comment on sub judice issues. He said the Supreme Court is hearing the case on Tuesday (today) and everything will come out in the open.
