KARACHI: Islamabad Football Association’s (IFA) president Dr Fazal-ur-Rehman was on Friday deposed from his post through no confidence motion moved by the house.
The senior vice-president Mohammad Salim Chaudhry replaced Dr Fazal as IFA chief.
Former IFA president Sharafat Bukhari told ‘The News’ that 29 of the 32 clubs and referees association led by Mohammad Talib voted against Dr Fazal-ur-Rehman. Sharafat said that two clubs Ravi FC and Ramna FC did not cast their votes because their presidents were not present in the meeting.
Although their secretaries were present but as per rules only the presidents of the clubs are entitled to cast their votes in such a move.
Sharafat said that the Islamabad Olympic Association (IOA) observer Ramzan Qasuri was present in the meeting.
The clubs revolted against Dr Fazal after he violated the decision of the IFA executive committee by sitting in the electoral meeting of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) at Changla Gali on June 30 in which Faisal Saleh Hayat was re-elected as president for the fourth successive time.
Faisal-led PFF had opted to hold the elections despite Lahore High Court’s (LHC) stay order which it had issued on June 29.
In the case, Faisal and his secretary Col Ahmed Yar Lodhi face contempt of court.
