Since its inception, Pakistan has been striving hard to convince the international community that the people of Kashmir should be given the right of self-determination. The United Nations Security Council had passed a resolution for holding plebiscite in Kashmir. But India is not ready to abide by the resolution. Successive governments in Pakistan have tried to resolve the issue through dialogue but the process has not made any headway either.
The international community supports Pakistan’s stance over Kashmir which is the cornerstone of our foreign policy. Most of our energies and efforts are pointed towards finding a just solution to this issue. In the face of stiff resistance from India, the issue can only be resolved by making Pakistan an economically stable country as suggested by Nawaz Sharif. If we become economically strong, our stance would get immense support at all international forums. China is a glaring example of how much power an economically strong country wields in world affairs. Hong Kong was reunited with China without shedding a single drop of blood or firing a single bullet. Therefore, the need is to focus our energies on making the economy strong. The Kashmir issue will resolve automatically.
