KARACHI: Hush Puppies had mixed fortunes as they won and lost a game each over the weekend in the Over-60 T20 Super Veterans Cricket Tournament.
According to a press release issued by the PVCA on Monday, Hush Puppies overcame Omar Associates by four wickets here at the TMC Ground on Saturday. They were defeated by 40 runs by Airport Gymkhana at the same venue the following day.
Batting first after winning the toss, Omar Associates amassed 140 runs for the loss of six wickets. Skipper Fawad Ijaz Khan, who is also chairman of the PVCA, played a superb unbeaten knock of 60 off 51 balls, striking four boundaries.
Anwar Baba scored 31 runs with a six and three fours. Raees Ahmed took two wickets for 40 runs. Hush Puppies reached the target for the loss of six wickets in 15.4 overs.
Babar Basharat, a former first-class batsman, scored 57 runs with nine fours, while Alamgir Ahmed contributed 20. Ashraf Pakhali (2-19) and Anwar Baba (2-37) shared the wickets for Omar Associates.
In the other match, Airport Gymkhana posted a huge total of 186 for four. Opener Tahir Gul scored a brilliant 117 off 62 balls with four sixes and nine fours. Tahir Iqbal scored 36 with one boundary. Shakir Sheikh took two wickets for 19.
In reply, Hush Puppies managed 146 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. Opener Raees Ahmed scored 59 runs with five fours, while Farooq Ahmed hit a couple of fours in his 34. Imtiaz Safdar also struck a couple of fours in his 26.
The Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association, in collaboration with the Sindh Seniors Cricket Welfare Association, is organising this four-team tournament in order to form Pakistan team for Over-60 World Cup to be held in Brisbane later this year.
