PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued notification for induction of all the Levies and Khassadar force personnel serving in the merged districts in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, officials said on Monday.

Around 28,000 Levies personnel and Khassadars have been demanding job security, induction into the police force and pay and incentives equal to the regular police force.

“The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister has desired to merge all the Levies and Khassadar force of the merged districts into the KP Police within six months,” stated a notification of the KP government.

The decision would ensure job security of all the law- enforcers serving in the erstwhile Fata. The process of their induction, however, would be completed in six months. They will also be imparted proper training before being inducted into the KP Police.

The regular courts and police stations for the merged districts were notified a couple of weeks back. The courts for the merged districts have already become functional, but the police stations are yet to start working. However, the district police officers (DPOs) have been appointed for the merged districts.

Mohammad Hussain has been posted as DPO Khyber, Pir Shahab Ali Shah DPO Bajaur, Abdul Rashid DPO Mohmand, Salahuddin DPO Orakzai, Rahim Shah DPO Kurram, Kifayatullah DPO North Waziristan and Atiqullah Wazir as DPO South Waziristan. The Khassadars and Levies personnel have been protesting for the past few weeks against the merger. They had announced they will not allow the deployment of the KP Police in the merged districts.

An embarrassing situation emerged in Bajaur last month when the Levies and Khassadars refused entry to the KP Police contingents that were assigned for the security of Imran Khan who was to address a rally in Khar town. On Friday, however, the KP Police officials along with contingents of the Army, Frontier Corps, Levies and Khassadars jointly arranged security for the rally of Prime Minister Imran Khan in Jamrud tehsil in Khyber district. KP Inspector General of Police Mohammad Naeem Khan was welcomed by contingents of Levies and Khassadars when he reached Jamrud.
