Sindh Governor Imran Ismail has said that a high-level committee will be constituted to permanently resolve the issue of accommodation for the residents of the federal government’s residential estate in Pakistan Quarters.

He stated this while chairing a high-level meeting along with Federal Minister for Housing and Works Tariq Basheer Cheema at the Governor House on Wednesday. Ismail said that the committee would send its recommendations to the concerned federal ministry so the issue could be resolved at the earliest.

He said efforts were being made to permanently resolve the problem of residents of Pakistan Quarters, adding that it was a vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to provide low-cost housing facility to the people.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Aamir Liaquat Hussain, PTI MPA Jamal Siddiqui, chief secretary of Sindh, the chief executive officer of the Karachi Infrastructure Development Company Ltd, Chairman Association of Builders and Developers Muhammad Hassan Bakshi were also present during the meeting.

In November, the Sindh Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution demanding that the occupants of the federal government’s residential quarters in Karachi be immediately granted ownership rights.

The resolution was presented by PA opposition leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan in the previous sitting of the House. It also condemned the previous month’s police action that aimed at evicting the residents of Pakistan Quarters.
