‘New policy to revitalise agriculture sector’
BAHAWALPUR: Provincial Agriculture Secretary Muhammad Mahmood has said that the Punjab government has introduced a new agriculture policy to extend maximum economic relief to the farmers.
Addressing a meeting at the Commissioner Office here on Sunday, he said that the new policy was aimed to revitalise the agriculture sector through sustained financial and technical intervention, which would make the agriculture profession profitable.
The process of electronic registration of the farmers was under way at the land record centres, which would enable them to get the Kisan cards, he said, adding that through the cards the farmers would receive interest free loans of Rs 60,000 through easy paisa sale points throughout the province.
He further said that the government had made the pesticide sector tax-free to supply pesticides to the farmers at affordable prices. The secretary said that the government had launched an initiative to prepare a credit history of big and small farmers to streamline the loan extending system to the genuine beneficiaries.
