Students from KP, Fata, Balochistan and minorities benefit the most
PESHAWAR: The Edwardes College has awarded scholarships worth Rs7 million to needy students from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), Balochistan and to those from the minority communities in the year 2016-17.
A press release said the college kept up its tradition to financially support every year the deserving students on merit.
According to the press release, out of Rs7 million, Rs4.725 million were given as need-based assistance to students from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It said three Fata students were provided 100 percent financial assistance of Rs500,000 to pay their tuition cost and hostel expenses for one year. It added that an amount of Rs1.0275 was given to minority students including Christians, Sikhs, Hindus and others.
Besides, the press release said students from the minority communities are awarded merit scholarships. It added that children of college employees are awarded 100 percent financial aid worth Rs570,000.
The press release also pointed out that students excelling in academics are also awarded cash prizes. It said the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Award of Rs500,000 is given to student who secures the highest marks in the annual intermediate examination of the Board of Secondary Education Peshawar while the Diocese of Peshawar Award valued at Rs200,000 is awarded to the student obtaining the highest position in the BA/BSc examination of University of Peshawar. The Church Mission Society Award of Rs100,000 is given to the student securing highest marks in BS (Computer Science), BS (English), MBA, or any other discipline in BS programme. The Edwardes College also acknowledges the achievement of its “A level” students by awarding the “Principal Award” of Rs100,000 and Rs200,000, respectively, to college students who win top position in “A level” in any subject in Pakistan or secure top position in any subject throughout the world. Besides, any student who secures first position in any of the intermediate Board and desires to study in Edwardes College is provided 100 percent scholarship.
The press release said that during the previous financial year 2015-16, 396 needy students benefited from need and merit based scholarships. They included 33 students from the flood affected Chitral district who were granted full one year fee concession of Rs2.4 million. Besides, 59 students from Fata were granted fee concession amounting to Rs1 million.
