Mamnoon urges media to play main role in purging corruption
Luncheon meeting with APNS

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday said that Pakistan has suffered a lot and now the whole nation would collectively strive to pluck the homeland out of its quagmire of problems. “This is our national objective and media should utilise its energies to achieve it,” he added.
Talking to office-bearers and members of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) over a luncheon meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President said that all indicators point to improvement in overall situation in the country. He said that new possibilities for economic revival are emerging taking advantage of which is the need of the hour. He said that the country faces resource constraints to surmount which the nation needs to be focused and united to overcome the challenges. “Keeping with the modern trends, the economy has taken precedence over politics”, he added.
He noted that national economy would experience a turnaround through completion of economic corridor as new industries would be set up besides creation of new opportunities for trade activities. He appealed to the media to pave the way for timely completion of these projects and thwart all obstacles because the fate of the nation is linked to completion of these projects.
The President urged the media to fulfill its role to safeguard the youth from the detrimental effects of western values. He observed that the tendency of sensationalism and negativity is not good for the society and urged upon the media to continue pointing out both good and bad with a missionary zeal. He further said that media can play an important role in eliminating corruption and expressed the hope that it would continue playing its positive role in this respect. He asserted that operation in Karachi would continue till complete restoration of peace in the city.
The office bearers and members of APNS assured the President of their cooperation in national efforts for strengthening of democracy and economy.
