Prince William, Kate Middleton get 'real monarchical power' as King Charles plans abdication
King Charles will get one final grand public ‘hurrah’ on the balcony before abdication
Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton have finally got ‘real monarchical power’ amid reports King Charles is planning to abdicate after Trooping the Colour this year.
The insiders have told the New Idea that the Prince and Princess of Wales have done more than enough to prove their mettle, so King Charles knows the monarchy’s in good and capable hands.
The close confidant claimed it would give King Charles one final grand public ‘hurrah’ on the balcony before handing over.
Prince William is said to be fully prepared and has been taking on more duties amid King Charles health woes.
William has been conducting investiture ceremonies, high-level receptions, and meetings on behalf of the King, the source said and added “But the biggest sign he and Kate are getting ready to reign is the Royal Warrants, which start shortly.”
Traditionally, only the monarch can grant these warrants, but now, Prince William and Kate will also become Grantors of Royal Warrants, meaning they can officially endorse companies that supply them goods and services.
The source tells the publication, “This is a very significant step.
“It gives William and Kate real monarchical power earlier than usual and signals that they are being fast-tracked for the top job.”
The same report also claimed that palace aides have confirmed the King is “struggling to keep up with his already pared-down roster”, which is why there’s been “an increase in urgent talks about his abdication”.
