Eight killed, 18 injured in Chakwal bus accident

LAHORE: At least eight people were killed and 18 others sustained injuries in a passenger bus accident near Bil Kasar in Chakwal on Sunday.

The bus, travelling from Islamabad to Lahore, was carrying approximately 40 passengers when the accident occurred. According to Rescue 1122, the accident was reported early in the day, prompting an immediate emergency response.

Six rescue vehicles and 25 rescuers were dispatched to the site, where ambulances and support teams worked swiftly to extricate victims and provide first aid.

Initial investigations, backed by eyewitness accounts, suggest that the accident was caused by a burst front tire on the passenger side, which led to the vehicle losing control and overturning on the road.

The deceased have been identified as Habiba (35), daughter of unknown, Haider (8 months), son of Mohsin, Ume Habiba (26), wife of Khalil, one unidentified child (approximately 1 year old), Khadija (14), daughter of Khaliq, Haram (2), daughter of Khaliq, Sardar Nadeem (45), son of unknown, and Mansha Bagum (38), wife of Shahid.

The 18 injured were shifted to nearby medical facilities, with several reported in critical condition. The injured include Sana (20), daughter of Ashraf, Hajra (25), daughter of Shahid, Saqib (30), son of Shahid, Shazia (50), wife of Shahid, Mehrab (18), daughter of Shahid, Kiran (48), wife of Irfan, Zara, wife of Shahid, Fahad Majid, son of Shahid, Haseeb, son of Khursheed, Hayat Ullah, son of Syed Shah, Sakina (35), wife of Rizwan, Zahra (25), daughter of Fayaz, Aasia (55), wife of Anwar, Abeeha (2), daughter of Khalil, Mohsin Khalil (26), son of Khalil, Zohaib (20), son of Shahid, Adnan (38), son of Asghar, and Rehan (16), son of Adnan.

Medical teams provided on-site treatment before shifting the seriously injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident.
