ISLAMABAD: Opposition leaders in the Senate and National Assembly Syed Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub Khan, respectively and PTI Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram Tuesday accused the government of using the undemocratic tactics to deprive its rivals of justice.

Speaking at a news conference here, they alleged that the party’s founder chairman Imran Khan was being kept in jail on baseless charges and denied the facilities which were even available to the ordinary inmates.

They expressed deep concern over the plight of law and justice in the country and said the government was using undemocratic tactics to deny its opponents justice.

Shibli Faraz said Imran was not allowed to meet his family.

He termed Al-Qadir Trust case a fake and said the 190 million pounds actually went to the Supreme Court account, but the government used it to create a false propaganda against the founder and his family.

He questioned the appointment of judges and said the government was doing it to deprive its opponents of justice.

He claimed that there was a plan to disqualify as many as 52 members of the PTI.

Shibli also criticised the ‘partiality’ of the Election Commission and cited the alleged rigging in Sialkot by-elections.

He lamented flawed economic policies and inadequate budget strategy for the poor people. He claimed that the masses will soon come to know that there was nothing in the budget for them, prepared on the IMF ‘dictation’.

Omar Ayub paid tribute to the country’s recent military achievements and said India will not back down from its aggression.

He alleged that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ‘incompetence’ was an obstacle to an immediate action against India.

He said there was a clear evidence of rigging in Sialkot by-elections, and accused the security personnel of torturing the PTI workers.

Referring to the forwarding of a disqualification reference to the Election Commission, he charged that the National Assembly speaker did not apply his mind and was under pressure to refer the matter, based on flimsy things, to the electoral body.

Omar contended that because of conflict of interest, the chief election commissioner (CEC) could not attend the deliberations concerning the reference.

Sheikh Waqas Akram expressed deep concern over the arrest of parliamentarians from the Parliament House and the speaker’s inaction in this connection.

He condemned the persecution and registration of FIRs against the social media activists.
