PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Markazi Muslim League Wednesday condemned suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India and accused it of launching a “declaration of war” against Pakistan.

Carrying banners and placards, the protesters gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club.Speaking on the occasion, PML Peshawar president Malik Kaleemullah said India’s move to suspend the water-sharing agreement after the recent Pahalgam incident was a clear attempt to undermine Pakistan’s agriculture and industry. He termed the move as part of a long-standing Indian policy of aggression towards Pakistan.

“We strongly condemn the tragic loss of 27 lives in the recent Pahalgam attack. But instead of addressing the issue responsibly, the Indian media launched a baseless propaganda campaign against Pakistan,” Kaleemullah said. He alleged that the Indian government staged the Pahalgam incident to justify suspending the treaty and to malign Pakistan internationally.

He further stated that India has repeatedly built dams on Pakistani rivers in violation of international agreements and is now taking steps to block Pakistan’s water flow - a strategy aimed at destroying Pakistan’s agriculture and turning its fertile lands barren.

“The Modi government’s deployment of over one million troops in occupied Kashmir and its aggressive stance prove it is working towards destabilizing the region,” he said.

Kaleemullah called on the international community to reject Indian propaganda and side with truth and justice. He urged the Government of Pakistan to take firm diplomatic and strategic actions in response, keeping in view national interest and public sentiment.
