‘BLF terrorist’ arrested in Lyari operation
The Rangers, in a joint intelligence-based operation with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police, arrested a most-wanted terrorist associated with the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) in the Lyari area of Karachi.
The suspect, identified as Akhtar, alias Akko, alias Bengali, was apprehended with weapons and ammunition. According to a spokesperson for the Rangers, the suspect was a resident of Lyari. He joined the BLF in 2019 on the recommendation of his close associate Faraz, alias Ganj Baloch.
Akhtar was reportedly actively involved in surveillance and video recording of sensitive locations along with his accomplice. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the March 9, 2021 gun attack near the Kamilla Bus Stop in the Baghdadi police jurisdiction, where he and Faraz opened fire on a vehicle carrying Chinese nationals.
The incident resulted in injuries to Chinese manager Jason and security guard Khalid. An FIR was registered at the Baghdadi police station, and both the suspects were clearly visible in CCTV footage.
Akhtar also revealed his role in gathering intelligence and recording videos of journalists Akram Sajdi and Shahid Zehri at Hub Chowki, which were then sent to BLF commander Abdul Rehman, alias Adnan, alias David. On October 10, 2021, BLF terrorists planted a magnetic bomb on Zehri’s vehicle at Hub Chowki, resulting in his death and leaving two others critically injured.
On November 1, 2021, another magnetic bomb attack claimed the life of Sajdi in the same area. Officials believe more significant disclosures are expected from the detained suspect. He has been handed over to the CTD, along with the seized arms and ammunition.
The Rangers have urged the public to report any suspicious activity or criminal elements to the nearest Rangers check post or via WhatsApp No 0347-9001111 or Rangers Helpline 1101.
