Pakistan pair strike gold at ITF Masters World Championship in Turkey
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s legendary tennis duo, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan, made history by securing the gold medal in the Men’s 45+ Doubles category at the ITF Masters World Championship in Manavgat, Turkey.
This remarkable achievement is a proud moment for Pakistan tennis and a testament to the enduring talent and dedication of the nation’s most accomplished players. In a thrilling final, Aisam and Aqeel delivered a commanding performance, defeating Lauri Kiiski (Finland) and Andreas Lindgren (Sweden) 7-6 (13-11), 6-0. Their experience, skill, and teamwork proved too strong for their opponents, particularly in the second set, where they displayed their signature aggressive play and dominance on the court.
Speaking about the victory, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), expressed immense joy and dedicated this triumph as a gift to the nation for 23rd March Pakistan Day and as a special Eid gift to the nation. He also thanked Allah for making them No. 1 among 21 competing countries worldwide.
Aqeel Khan also shared his excitement, dedicating the gold medal to the nation as a special Eid gift. Additionally, in the singles, Aqeel Khan secured a bronze medal for Pakistan after losing to Lauri Kiiski of Finland in the semifinals with a score of 7-6 (5), 6-2.
