JUIF concerned over attacks on religious leaders
PESHAWAR: Expressing concern over the rising attacks on religious scholars and seminaries, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) on Tuesday vowed to continue its mission despite security threats.
The concerns were expressed at the party’s provincial executive council which met under the chairmanship of Maulana Attaur Rehman. During the meeting, JUIF leaders criticised the governments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan for failing to protect citizens.
The JUIF leaders condemned the recent attack on Darul Uloom Haqqania and the killings of religious and political figures. The participants also offered prayers for Maulana Hamidul Haq and other victims of the targeted attacks.
JUIF leaders also accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial governments of failing to maintain law and order. They called on authorities to step down, alleging that law-enforcement agencies had failed to curb rising incidents of targeted killings, robberies, and general lawlessness.
Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Attaur Rehman said that the JUIF’s would not abandon its struggle despite the ongoing violence against religious scholars and institutions. The meeting also announced plans for a three-day training convention from May 2 to 4, where prominent religious scholars, academicians, and intellectuals will deliver lectures. Committees have been formed to oversee arrangements across different regions, including central districts, southern districts, Hazara, and Malakand Divisions.JUIF Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Mufti Taqi Usmani and other scholars are expected to attend the convention.
