JI leader’s brother shot dead in Swabi
SWABI: Shakeel Ahmed Khan, the elder brother of former Senator and ex-provincial head of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, was shot dead, police officials said on Sunday.
District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Azhar said one Kamran Khan, armed with a Kalashnikov, started indiscriminate
fire on Shakeel Ahmed Khan after reportedly killing his own father, Gohar Zaman.
Riaz Ahmed, another brother of Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, told the police that the shooting took place near the residence of Gul Nabi Khan. He said that as they heard gunfire from Gohar Zaman’s house, Kamran Khan emerged and opened fire. Shakeel Ahmed Khan died on the spot due to gunshot wounds,
while Gul Nabi Khan sustained injuries.
The deceased was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Ahad Khan. His funeral was attended by thousands, including JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, deputy head Mian Aslam, former JI chief Sirajul Haq, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, MNA Abdul Akbar Chitrali, and leaders of various political parties, officials and community members.
Following the funeral, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan demanded the immediate arrest of his brother’s killer, calling it a brutal act of violence. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and efforts were underway to apprehend the accused.
