91 more illegal Afghan immigrants sent home
JAMRUD: The government on Saturday released 91 more illegal Afghan immigrants and handed them over to the Afghan border authorities at Torkham border.
It was learnt that most of the prisoners released by the government were arrested from Punjab and Islamabad as they had no legal documents and had been warned several times to leave Pakistan. However, they continued to live in Pakistan illegally, so the police took legal action against them. The police arrested and put them in prisons for four to five days.
They were released after legal requirements were fulfilled. The police handed them over to Afghan border officials at Torkham.
Meanwhile, UNHCR said that the withdrawal of Afghan immigrants from Pakistan had been underway, which intensified since 2023 when the government of Pakistan started evacuating Afghan refugees from. So far, 825,600 Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan.
