Armed robbers loot govt-run bank in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: Unidentified robbers looted a government-run bank in Taru Jabba located on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road in Nowshera district, police officials said on Tuesday.

They said that unknown robbers tied the bank’s security guard in the ATM room with ropes before starting looting the bank and fleeing with over Rs10.8 million cash, 578 tolas worth Rs173.4 million gold ornaments and the camera system.

The officials added that around five robbers carried out the looting for five hours inside the bank, who first cut the safe and then started collecting the valuables. District Police Officer Abdur Rashid Khan visited the scene and started an investigation under his personal supervision.

The bank manager Alamgir Khan informed the police that at 5:15am, he received a call from the bank’s manager (operations) Safdar Ali Zia, saying that unknown robbers had entered the bank and fled with cash and gold.

The robbers had also cut the camera system and DVR before leaving the bank.The security guard Shahid Jamal, a resident of Taru Jabba, told the police that he was performing his duty outside the bank at the ATM when around 1:0am, five armed robbers came, tied him up, and then broke the locks and doors and entered the bank.

He said the robbers used a gas welder to break into the bank’s strong room and then cut open the safe containing the cash and gold. The police have registered a case against the unknown robbers and started an investigation.DPO Abdur Rashid said that three teams had been formed to carry out investigations from all angles. He said the security guard was included in the investigation.
