MPA says authorities promised to start passenger convoys soon
PARACHINAR/HANGU: Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Ali Hadi Irfani on Wednesday said the authorities had assured him that passenger convoys to Kurram would soon be started to facilitate the local people.
Talking to The News, he praised the efforts of Commissioner Kohat, Mu’tasim Billah Shah, and Regional Police Officer Kohat, Abbas Majeed, for their support in initiating and successfully delivering the first convoy.
The convoy carrying essential food items and daily necessities reached Kurram district after a five-day wait following the recent peace agreement. The residents in Parachinar expressed joy over the arrival of the convoy and urged authorities to start similar convoys for passengers as well.
The convoy, loaded with food and other necessities, traveled from Thall in Hangu to Parachinar and neighbouring areas, bringing much-needed relief to locals who had been facing shortages due to prolonged road closures.
The residents of Kurram, who have faced severe difficulties due to the three-month-long closure of roads and the main highway, welcomed the development. Shortages of food, daily essentials, and medicines had compounded their problems. However, they expressed the hope that their sufferings could be alleviated if the convoys continued to arrive in Kurram regularly.
Deputed Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Khan termed the safe arrival of the convoy a positive development.In his message to the public, he assured them of efforts to implement all points of the 14-point peace agreement which was recently reached in Kohat. He said that measures were being taken to secure the main highway.
The deputy commissioner said that those involved in the Bagan firing attack would be brought to justice.Expressing sorrow over the loss of lives in a firing incident in the district, he reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and property.
