Panel to propose changes to judges code of conduct
Council examines 35 complaints under Article 209 of Constitution filed by different individuals
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on Friday constituted a committee headed by Supreme Court senior judge Justice Munib Akhtar to propose amendments to the Code of Conduct of Judges and the Council Procedure of Enquiry.
The SJC meeting was held here in the Supreme Court under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, being the council’s chairman, and was attended by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, and Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar.
During the meeting, the Council examined 35 complaints under Article 209 of the Constitution filed by different individuals. As many as 30 complaints were filed whereas comments in five complaints were sough, says a press release issued by the Public Relations Department of the apex court.
The SJC also discussed the agenda regarding amendments to the Code of Conduct of Judges under Article 209(8) of the Constitution and Supreme Judicial Council Procedure of Enquiry 2005. In this respect, the forum constituted a committed headed by Justice Munib Akhtar to propose the amendments.
