Says arrested men confessed to being involved in attack

NAWABSHAH: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Tuesday claimed that terrorists involved in the killing of Ismailis in a Karachi bus attack had been arrested and further investigation was in progress.
Talking to the media at the end of the 13th convocation of the PUMHS, the chief minister said the law-enforcement agencies had succeeded in arresting four terrorists involved in the Safoora Chowrangi carnage, who had confessed to being involved in the massacre of Ismailis.
To a question, Qaim said that he was not the captain but the chief minister and was discharging his duty in the Karachi operation with utmost responsibility. He said searching every person in the thickly-populated city of Karachi was impossible. He said that the decision to establish the army courts and apex committees was taken in the wake of a terrorist attack on the Army Public School, Peshawar.
He appreciated the sacrifices of Jawans of the Pak Army and added it was playing a vital role in the elimination of terrorists. He said incidents of kidnapping, target killing, extortion and other crimes had receded, terming them an outcome of the Karachi operation.
He said that traders had also appreciated the outcome of the Karachi operation, adding peace had been restored and business activities had increased in the city following the Karachi operation. He lauded the services of the Ismaili community in the creation and development of the country.
To a question, the chief minister said the government made policy but implementation was the duty of law enforcers. Earlier, addressing the 13th convocation of the People’s University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Qaim Ali Shah said the government was paying special attention to health and education sectors and that was why it had released a huge amount of Rs40 billion in this regard.
He said that during the seven-year-long tenure of the PPP government, nine universities and Higher Education Commission were set up in the province. A university and medical college were set up in the less-privileged area of Lyari. He said that no section in the province would be ignored, adding opportunities were being created to end unemployment in the province. He said that jobs would be given purely on merit through the Sindh Public Service Commission.
On the occasion, Qaim announced to provide jobs to doctors holding positions and gold medals on priority basis. He also announced to establish the Institute of Dental and Oral Sciences under the auspices of the PUMHS.
Speaking next, Sindh Minister Jam Mumtaz Dahar said that jobs were being provided on merit basis in the health sector. He said that four buses were approved for the PUMHS.The occasion was also addressed by Vice Chancellor PUMHS Prof Noshad Shaikh, Vice Chancellor PUMHS Prof Azam Yusifani, Prof Shamsuddin Shaikh and Prof Dr Saleh Khaskheli.
In the meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has appreciated the provincial law enforcement agencies, especially the police, on arresting four persons responsible for the Safoora Chowrangi, Karachi, incident.
The prime minister made a phone call to Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Tuesday evening and congratulated him on the achievement. He expressed the government’s sincere resolve to eradicate the menace of terrorism from the country.
The PM said that the arrest of plotters of this heinous crime in such a short time proved that the Karachi operation was going in the right direction and that our law enforcement agencies had the capability of handling such challenging tasks.
Meanwhile, Co-chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated the chief minister Sindh, IG police and other police officers on the arrest of key culprits involved in the Safoora massacre. In a press statement, the former president said that the arrest of the main accused had proved that the operation being conducted by the Sindh government against terrorists and criminal elements was moving towards success.
He asked the Sindh CM to award prizes and commendation certificates to the police party.Asif Ali Zardari stated that the Sindh Police had resolved many cases in the past and with the arrest of the Safoora carnage accused, it had displayed its capability to eliminate terrorists and their network from the province.The former president showered appreciation on the CM Sindh for patronising the police and law enforcing agencies besides admiring the police officers and Jawans.
