Mufti Muneebur Rehman has urged Ulema to exercise caution in issuing Fatwa and consult their seniors in the field of Islamic studies before issuing any religious decree.
The renowned religious scholar stated this in his keynote address at the inauguration ceremony of the Pakistan Islamic Leadership Summit organised by the Saylani Welfare International Trust and Darul Uloom Memon on Saturday. Some 1,200 Ulema from 400 religious seminaries have been attending the three-day moot at the Memon Masjid.
Mufti Muneeb said that consultation with fellow religious scholars should be the preferred way before issuing religious decrees. “It is also an advisable course of action to accept your mistake as the confession of the fault also shows your greatness,” he said.
He urged the Ulema to enhance their competence in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) so that the solution to a problem presented by them should be better than the AI-generated answers.
He told the audience at the summit that religious scholars should have the courage to express the tenets of Islam as otherwise, they should not be in this field.
Mutfi Muneeb, who also earlier served as the chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, said that religious seminaries should not be used as a means of income generation as Madaris are built to promote Islam.
“We all are accountable before Allah to give answers about our efforts to promote Islam,” he remarked.
He said the administration of religious seminaries should also remain accountable for spending of the donations given by the philanthropists for educating their students to transform them into Islamic scholars.
He said that religious scholars should not develop any inferiority complex regarding their intellectual standing, instead, they should earn global recognition based on their scholarly achievements. The scholarly status of the religious scholars was no less than that of the scholars of any other field, he said as he advised the religious scholars to remain steadfast to the cause of Islam.
Earlier, Saylani Trust Chairman Maulana Muhammad Bashir Farooq Qadri said his non-profit stood fully committed to the advancement and progress of the religious seminaries in the country. He said the graduates of the religious seminaries could perform an important role in the progress and growth of Pakistan. He urged the Islamic scholars to play their due role in countering the anti-Islam wave at the global level.
