Sindh to raise universities’ funding from Rs6bn to Rs33bn
During the NED University’s 33rd convocation on Tuesday, Sindh’s chief minister commended the institution for its significant contributions to the advancement of education and innovation in Pakistan. He also announced increasing universities’ funding from Rs6 billion to Rs33 billion.
CM Syed Murad Ali Shah congratulated the graduating students, and acknowledged the university’s commitment to broadening its academic offerings to align with contemporary global knowledge trends.
Shah recognised the diverse array of disciplines offered at the university, and commended its graduates, many of whom are accomplished professionals making notable contributions on a global scale.
Reflecting upon his pride in attending the institution’s centennial celebrations in 2021-2022, he underscored the enduring impact of the NED alumni on the country’s professional landscape, particularly their involvement in the development of transformative projects at the university.
A focal point of his address was the proposed NED University Science & Technology Park, an ambitious initiative supported by Enertech and the provincial government. He emphasised that this facility aims at enhancing collaboration among students, faculty and industry stakeholders, thereby facilitating economic growth in the province.
He also highlighted his government’s plan to substantially increase funding for higher education institutions, raising it from Rs6 billion to over Rs33 billion, as evidence of the province’s commitment to academic advancement.
He also referred to the Peoples IT Programme, which offers vital IT training, as well as a collaboration with Google to familiarise students with advanced digital tools, thereby preparing them for the evolving landscape of the IT industry.
Addressing the challenges posed by recent events, he underscored the province’s ambitious reconstruction initiatives following the 2022 floods. He called upon all residents to contribute to the recovery efforts, expressing confidence that NED graduates would play a pivotal role in these endeavours.
He congratulated the graduates, and expressed his belief in their capability to navigate the unprecedented challenges shaped by recent global events. He urged them to leverage their exceptional education to contribute positively to their families and alma mater, and the nation.
