9,200 cameras to be installed in 43 jails
LAHORE:The Punjab government has decided to install 9,200 cameras in 43 jails of Punjab under Safe Prisons Programme.
Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal on Monday chaired a meeting to review progress on installation of cameras at prisons across Punjab. The Home secretary directed the Safe City Authority to complete the survey on the installation of cameras within a week. He directed that body cams, public address system, access control system and panic button should be installed in all jails of Punjab. The meeting was told that modern 8 mega pixel cameras will be installed in all the jails under the Safe Prisons Programme. State-of-the-art cameras capable of facial and vehicle recognition and a visitor management system will be operational to monitor all visitors in the prisons. Modern cameras will monitor the attendance and movement of inmates and prison staff with the help of artificial intelligence.
Thanks to artificial intelligence, automatic alarm will be generated on any unlawful activity in the jails. He directed that in the first phase installation of cameras should be completed in high profile and central jails. Safe Cities Authority will provide technical assistance in the project of installation of cameras. IG Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir, MD Safe City Ahsan Younis, Additional Secretary Prisons Asim Raza, SSP Mustansar Feroze and other officers participated in the meeting.
