Decision to close Pak-PWD opposed
PESHAWAR: All Pakistan Association of Government Engineers has rejected the likely closure of the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) and amendments to the Civil Servant Act.
Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, Zar Gul, president of the All Pakistan Association of Government Engineers Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stated that the Prime Minister’s decision to close the PWD is unjust.
“Over 7,000 employees, including 1,500 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will lose their jobs if the decision is implemented,” he added. They added that the Civil Servant Act of 1973 provides employees with job security and pension protection and no government has the right to arbitrarily strip employees of their rights.
They urged the prime minister to immediately replace his legal advisors who are driving the prime minister and the entire government into a dead-end, causing unemployment among employees.
