Sebastian Bach responds to Christina Applegate’s story about leaving Brad Pitt at 1989 VMAs
Sebastian Bach addresses resurfacing of 1989 MTV Video Music Awards incident in Christina Applegate's new memoir
Sebastian Bach has spoken about the long-standing story about Christina Applegate and Brad Pitt at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1989.
The former Skid Row frontman recently shared he was surprised when the incident resurfaced after Applegate mentioned it in her new memoir, You with the Sad Eyes. In the book, the actress recalls attending the awards show with Pitt but leaving with Bach instead.
Speaking to Billboard, Bach said he had been a young musician touring at the time and meeting many people. He added that if his actions hurt anyone, he apologised.
“When you’re young and in rock ’n’ roll, everything moves very fast,” he said, describing the experience as a whirlwind. He noted that the incident happened decades ago and said he meant no harm.
In her memoir, Applegate said she was just 17 when she attended the event with Pitt, who was still early in his acting career. During the evening, she found herself drawn to Bach, who was then the long-haired singer behind the band’s hit Youth Gone Wild.
After the show ended, she left with Bach, while Pitt reportedly drove her mother home. Applegate wrote that Pitt was upset about the situation and that the two did not speak for many years afterwards.
She later regretted the decision after learning Bach was already in a relationship and had a young child at the time. Applegate said she and Pitt eventually moved past the incident, acknowledging that she had been very young.
The actress described herself as “the girl who dumped Brad Pitt for the lead singer of Skid Row”, adding that the moment has followed her for years.
