UET VC elected PEC vice-chairman
PESHAWAR: Vice-Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar Prof. Dr. Qaisar Ali has been elected as the vice-chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) for 2024-27.
The elections were conducted on August 18. Dr Qaisar Ali secured his position, making him the first sitting vice-chancellor of a university to attain the role in PEC’s history.Dr. Qaisar Ali holds a PhD in Structural Engineering and has over 30 years of experience in academia, research, consultancy, and administration. He currently serves as vice-chancellor of UET Peshawar and is also the dean of the Faculty of Civil, Agriculture, and Mining Engineering.
His leadership has been instrumental in the establishment of Pakistan’s first Earthquake Engineering Center which is recognized as the fourth largest seismic testing facility worldwide.Dr. Qaisar has played a role in developing Pakistan’s Seismic Building Codes (2007 and 2021) and has successfully spearheaded over 1000 consultancy projects, providing invaluable guidance to both national and international organizations.
His contributions to engineering and higher education in Pakistan have been recognized, earning him numerous awards, including the HEC’s Best Teacher Award (2007) and the Euro Scholar Award (2007-08).
