Murad invites Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem to visit Karachi
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, through a telephonic conversation, congratulated Arshad Nadeem on his extraordinary achievement of winning the gold medal and breaking the Olympic record in javelin throw at the Olympics 2024 and invited him to visit Karachi and be his guest.
Shah called Arshad Nadeem on his mobile phone in Paris. He congratulated him on his victory and achieving a record-breaking throw of 92.97 metres in the men’s javelin final at the Paris Olympics. “You have raised the heads of the nation with pride,” he told Arshad.
The CM invited javelin champion to visit Karachi and be his guest. “People of Sindh are anxious to receive you here.” Arshad Nadeem thanked the chief minister for his phone call and the cash prize of Rs50 million, which he announced for him in recognition of his achievement. “I am thankful to the chief minister for his appreciation and to the people of Sindh who prayed for my success,” Arshad told the CM and accepted his invitation. He said he would visit Sindh shortly and call on him at the CM House.
KPC membership
The Karachi Press Club (KPC) will confer life membership on Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem in recognition of his historic achievement, Secretary Shoaib Ahmed announced on Friday.
“Arshad Nadeem is a national hero whose extraordinary accomplishment has inspired millions of Pakistanis,” said Saeed Sarbazi, president of the KPC. “His victory is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our nation and its athletes. The KPC is proud to honour such a remarkable individual.”
The governing body of the KPC unanimously decided to bestow the highest honour on Nadeem, who broke the Olympic record in javelin to become the first Pakistani to win individual gold at the Games.
“Nadeem’s triumph is a watershed moment for Pakistani sports. He has placed our nation on the global sporting map. The life membership is a small token of our appreciation for his immense contribution,” said Shoaib Ahmed, secretary of the KPC.
The life membership will be formally conferred on Nadeem at a ceremony to be held at the Karachi Press Club soon, details of which will be announced later.
Nadeem joins a distinguished list of sports icons, including cricketers Imran Khan and Javed Miandad, squash legend Jahangir Khan, and former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfraz Ahmed, who have been awarded life membership by the KPC.
The KPC has also in the past bestowed life membership upon cricket legend Vivian Richard and Darren Sammy for playing an important role in reviving international cricket in Pakistan.
