Two robbers killed in New Karachi encounter found involved in cop’s murder
The two robbers killed in a police encounter in New Karachi Industrial Area on Saturday were found to be involved in the killing of Police Constable Yousuf and the theft of his official weapon.
In the encounter, two robbers were killed, and a female accomplice was arrested in an injured condition. A police officer also sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. During a press conference, DIG West Irfan Baloch provided details about the targeted killing of Constable Yousuf, who was martyred on July 19 near Water Pump Chowrangi. The assailants had also stolen his weapon. “This morning, an encounter with the suspects led to the death of two individuals. One suspect managed to escape,” DIG Baloch explained. He emphasised that the suspects had targeted Constable Yousuf specifically to obtain a powerful weapon, highlighting the growing threat from such criminals.
Among the deceased suspects, Shaukat’s criminal record had been revealed. Although the weapon used in the murder of Constable Yousuf was recovered, the stolen weapon remains missing. Baloch mentioned that the police were collaborating with the Punjab police to gather further information about the suspects’ criminal activities.
The encounter took place in the New Karachi Industrial Area. During the exchange of fire, Constable Haider was injured and was taken to the hospital. The suspects were later identified as Shaukat and Zafar, and their female accomplice as Rukhsana, wife of Imtiaz. The police also recovered three pistols, four mobile phones, and two motorcycles from their possession.
The arrested woman was transferred to the police station, and the criminal records of the deceased suspects were under review.
Initial investigations suggested that the suspects were involved in multiple robberies and used women to evade law enforcement. Further details were expected from the interrogation of the arrested woman. One accomplice escaped during the encounter, and police were conducting raids to apprehend the suspect.
