KARACHI: The government on Wednesday announced a reshuffle of leadership in five electricity distribution companies (DISCOs), according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy.
The move comes amid ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and performance of the power sector.Dr Tahir Masood was named the new chairperson/independent director of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO). Four other independent directors were also appointed to the board.
Similar appointments were made for the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco), Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco), and Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco).
Amer Zia will chair Mepco and Lesco, while Omer Farooq Khan and Himayat Ullah Khan will lead Fesco and Pesco respectively. All these officials have received the title of chairperson/independent director, with their boards also receiving four additional independent directors each.
The notification from the Ministry of Energy did not specify the reasons for the leadership changes, nor did it disclose the identities of the additional board members. All independent directors will serve a three-year term, with the possibility of extension.
