Friend admits killing matric student while making TikTok video at call centre
The mystery surrounding the death of a matriculation student at a call centre in the Liaquatabad area of Karachi has been resolved after police arrested the student’s friend for his killing.
Police said the suspect, Sarfaraz, son of Ayaz Khan, shot his friend Abdullah while making a TikTok video at the call centre.
During the initial interrogation, Sarfaraz revealed that he and Abdullah were making a TikTok video with a pistol owned by the call centre's owner, Haris. While they were filming the video, the gun accidentally discharged, killing Abdullah, he said.
A spokesperson for the District Central police said Sarfaraz told the investigators that Abdullah first made a video with the pistol after which Sarfaraz attempted to film a video while pointing the gun at Abdullah when he accidentally fired it.
Both the friends worked at the call centre as a part-time employee. After the incident, Sarfaraz fled the call centre, changed his clothes and went to his tuition centre.
Police have confiscated the weapon used in the shooting. A case of murder has been registered on the complaint of the deceased student’s father, Mahmood Ali.
According to Ali, his son Abdullah returned home on Friday at 12:30pm after taking his matriculation examination. After doing some household chores, he went out to offer prayers and did not return.
When the family inquired about him at the coaching centre, they found out that Abdullah had not gone there.
The father stated that when they reached the call centre to check if Abdullah was there, police were already present there and they learned that his son had been shot and killed.
The victim lived in the Jhanda Chowk area of Liaquatabad. Further investigations are under way.
