ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Dr Raja Ali Raza Anwar has underscored the significance of research in oncology, urging specialists across the world to engage in collaborations with Pakistan in this regard.
Addressing Pakistan Society of Clinical Oncology’s 25th annual conference here other day, he emphasised the importance of pharmaceutical companies prioritising the production of high-quality medicines at affordable prices.
The three-day event serves as a platform for sharing knowledge, featuring distinguished speakers from both Pakistan and abroad. The Pakistan Society of Clinical Oncology, a registered organisation representing oncologists across Pakistan, arranged the silver jubilee conference with the collaborative efforts of AECH-NORI, CMH Rawalpindi, and Shifa International Hospital (SIH), Islamabad.
Dr Mohammad Faheem chairs the sessions, supported by Dr Ahsan Mahmoud as co-chair, and Dr Humera Mahmoud leads the scientific committee. The conference was held on the theme titled ONCO 2024. PAEC chairman also inaugurated an exhibition featuring various pharmaceutical companies.
He impressed upon them to ensure quality medicines at affordable and reasonable price. He visited the stalls of the companies. Dr Mohammad Faheem, the conference chair and leading oncologist at NORI, delivered the inaugural remarks, shedding light on the cancer patient statistics in Pakistan and advocating for enhanced healthcare provisions for cancer patients.
He revealed that PAEC addresses around 80 percent of cancer cases through its 20 medical centers nationwide. These centers boast cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment machinery, ensuring top-notch services for cancer patients.
