Seminar on national consciousness in Pakistani literature marks Pakistan Day
Islamabad:The Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) organised a literary seminar on ‘National Consciousness in Pakistani Literature’ to commemorate Pakistan Day. The event, held in Islamabad, featured esteemed scholars and intellectuals discussing the pivotal role of literature in shaping national identity.
Presided over by Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, the seminar saw Dr. Salim Mazhar, an eminent figure, as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Najiba Arif, Chairperson of PAL, extended the vote of thanks, while Dr. Naheed Qamar and Dr. Manzoor Vaisreo shared their insights. The proceedings were skilfully conducted by Rehman Hafeez.
In his presidential address, Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik underscored the contributions of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali, and Allama Iqbal to the Pakistan Movement. He emphasised the concept of Pakistan as envisioned by Iqbal and implemented by Quaid-e-Azam, urging for a policy of self-reliance to shape the nation's future.
Dr. Salim Mazhar lauded Pakistan as a unique country with national consciousness ingrained even before its formation. He highlighted the importance of promoting civilization, culture, literature, and arts to maintain global prominence. Dr. Mazhar emphasized the leadership role of nations rooted in their ideals and stressed the need to imbibe Iqbal's thoughts into national consciousness.
Dr. Najiba Arif celebrated Pakistan's diversity of languages and cultures as a source of strength for national unity and prosperity. She credited Pakistani literature and poets for their efforts in highlighting national consciousness across various genres.
Dr. Manzoor Vaisreo presented a detailed paper on the manifestation of national consciousness in Pakistani literature, featuring poems in various languages expressing love for the country. Dr. Naheed Qamar echoed the sentiments, emphasizing how intellectuals like Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Maulana Hali, and Iqbal have profoundly influenced national consciousness through their works.
The seminar served as a platform for scholarly discourse on the intrinsic link between literature and national identity, reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to celebrating its rich cultural heritage and promoting unity in diversity.
