Filing appeal in Appellate Tribunal: Mushtaq Ghani’s brother held in Abbottabad

ABBOTTABAD: The police on Tuesday arrested the brother of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani at the time of filing an appeal before the Appellate Tribunal on behalf of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader.

Ilyas Ghani, the brother of Mushtaq Ghani is a businessman by profession. He has power of attorney to file the nomination papers of his brother Mushtaq Ghani during his absence as he is expected to reach Pakistan after renewal of his passport.

Illyas Ghani, who submitted the appeal on behalf of his brother in the Election Tribunal on Tuesday, was sent behind bars for unknown reason. His family claimed that he was arrested and taken to the Cantonment Police Station before being shifted to an undisclosed location.

They said that Illyas Ghani was a cardiac patient and underwent bypass surgery recently.

Mushtaq Ghani, who is currently staying in the UK due to expiry of his passport, could not return to Pakistan. He has applied for the renewal of his passport. His nomination papers for provincial assembly constituency PK-45 were submitted by his brother Illyas Ghani.

Farzana Mushtaq, wife of Mushtaq Ghani, also filed her nomination papers from the same constituency and would contest the election if Mushtaq Ghani failed to contest the polls. The police kept mum about the charges against Ilyas Ghani.
