KARACHI: A report of a five-member committee comprising college teachers has been sent to Sindh’s caretaker chief minister to examine the issue of allotting the girls’ hostel to male officers of Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls College, located in a posh area of the city.

However, ignoring the facts in the report, neither the responsible persons have been determined, nor has any action been recommended against them.

In the report, it is suggested that three officers — Director Colleges Karachi Suleman Syal, Deputy Director Colleges Karachi Shahbaz Ali Shahani and Deputy Secretary Rashid Ahmad Khoso — should vacate the girls’ hostel immediately, the allotment of the hostel should be cancelled immediately, and a policy/guideline should be issued for such matters.

It should be remembered that in Khatoon Pakistan Girls College, the girls hostel was built for female teachers from remote areas; however, former secretary colleges Ahmed Bakhsh Narejo, with the support of College Principal Shahida Kalhoro, illegally allotted the hostel to male officers.

By changing the basic structure of the girls’ hostel with a huge amount of money, it was given the shape of a flat. Later, the officers took up residence in the girls hostel.

Professor Zahid Hussain Rajpar, a member of the five-member committee, said that the powers of the committee were limited, that is why no recommendation was made against the responsible persons; however, it has been recommended that the allotment of the officers be cancelled, the hostel should be vacated immediately and a guideline should be formulated regarding the hostels established in more than a dozen girls’ colleges across the province.
