More funds to be released for cops’ children treatment: IG
LAHORE: Punjab IG Dr Usman Anwar has said police employees who are not able to get treatment for their kids are being provided assistance on priority and more measures will be taken in connection with health welfare.
The IG met the special young children of the police officials who recovered from hearing problems after cochlear implant surgeries and their parents at the Central Police Office and inquired about post-surgery treatments. The parents of the children thanked the IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar and said that after the cochlear implant surgeries, their kids are able to hear normally and now will live their lives like other normal children. The IG said that the police welfare fund has been specially spent on the welfare of constables and their families and so far funds have been released for the cochlear implant surgeries of 13 children of police officers, three children have undergone surgeries, while the rest will be done in the next few days. The IG released another Rs7.5 million for the cochlear implant surgery of children of five more police constables.
IG assures journalists of protection
IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar assured the journalists of effective measures regarding their protection and providing all support. All possible steps are being taken to protect journalists, he said this during his meeting with officials of journalist organisations here on Tuesday. Punjab Journalists Safety Coalition was also formed on this occasion. Convener Committee DIG Security Kamran Adil informed IG Punjab about the characteristics and objectives of the coalition.
Member Committee Punjab Journalists Safety Coalition (Punjab Chapter) Iqbal Khattak, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Afzal Butt, President Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) Shahzad Hussain Butt, representative of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Arslan Tahir and representative of secretary information and culture Punjab, Director News DGPR Qudratullah attended the meeting. Measures regarding the protection of journalists and prevention of any kind of exploitation were discussed during the meeting. The officials and representatives of journalist organisations submitted different suggestions about coalition’s mandate, rules of business and working.
150 students complete internship
IG Dr Usman Anwar met Volunteers in Police and Friends of Police at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh and distributed certificates to the students who completed the internship.
As many 150 students from various universities and colleges have completed two-week internship with Punjab police. During the internship, these students were informed about the police working of various wings including Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh, Special Initiative Police Stations, Anti Riot Force.
