Singer-songwriter Zeb Bangash is surely on a roll. She may have not been given due credit for her last stint in Imtiaz Ali critically-acclaimed Highway, for the song ‘Sooha Saha’, but that hasn’t deterred the young talent for making her mark across the border. Zeb has sung not one, but two songs, for the upcoming Katrina Kaif and Aditya Kapoor-starrer Fitoor.
Zeb took to Facebook to share her excitement about being part of this much-awaited, Indian adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. “Happy and proud to be part of this beautiful movie! Featured in two songs in favourite composer Amit Trivedi ‘s beautiful soundtrack for #Fitoor. Lyrics penned by the amazing #SwanandKirkire. Feels so good to hear the songs finally!” she posted.
The songs ‘Haminastu’ and ‘Honedo Batiya’ are a contrast to each other resonating Zeb’s versatility and vocal prowess as a singer. While both songs echo a tribal, Middle-Eastern vibe, with the use of string instruments like the mandolin and the rubab evident in the soundtrack, ‘Haminastu’ is more a haunting, upbeat, exotic melody whereas ‘Honedo Batiya’ is a subtle, romantic duet. Both Zeb and Nandini Srikar play it off well, blending in perfectly with the soothing background score while maintaining the uniqueness of their voices.
Zeb has recently won listener’s hearts with her incredible display of talent in the Pakistani film Ho Mann Jahaan not just as a singer but also a music composer. Hopefully, we’ll hear more of Zeb in 2016 as she is also set to release her album.
